The Cranston gauge allows the user to measure a variety of fruits and vegetables in a quick, simple and accurate manner (it can measure all produce that will fit into the gauge's metal band). The tool is also known as an apple gauge, a fruit gauge or a thinning gauge.
How to use it: slide the thumb tab to tighten the spring steel band around the produce and read the diameter at the pointer. There is an inch scale on one side and a millimeter scale on the other. The gauge tool can fit into a pocket and requires one hand to operate it. No electronics or batteries are needed.
Accuracy: +/- 0.010 inch (+/- .254mm). Measurement range is 0.8” (20.32mm) to 4.0” (101.6mm).
Growers use the Cranston produce measuring gauge during the growing season (bloom to harvest), as the dimensional data can be very helpful to estimate the characteristics of the harvest and to determine the need for thinning.
